About the project.
DeskFocus is a browser-based productivity and wellness tool that tracks sit and stand time alongside Pomodoro sessions and tasks. People who work at a desk often want to balance sitting and standing, but they juggle separate timers, reminders, and notes across different tools — and many options push sign-ups or cloud syncing, which makes users hesitate to track personal routines like posture habits and focus patterns. When reminders and session tracking live in different places, users miss nudges and lose the weekly context that helps them build healthier habits.
My role.
- •Designed DeskFocus around two distinct modes — Desk and Pomodoro — so users can switch contexts without mixing mental models or data.
- •Built posture-themed visuals that make sitting vs standing obvious at a glance, with gentle nudges (notifications, chimes, stretch hints) that support behavior change without feeling punitive.
- •Added moments of delight — confetti on standing milestones and completed pomodoros — to reinforce progress and reduce the grind feeling timers can create.
- •Turned raw minutes into something actionable with weekly sitting summaries, Mon–Fri standing goal rings, and a wellness facts carousel for lightweight education during breaks.
- •Treated privacy as a core UI requirement: clear separation of desk vs Pomodoro data, client-side localStorage only, and a targeted clear-desk-data action that does not wipe tasks.
Achieved.
- •Shipped a live product at DeskFocus.io that unifies posture timing and Pomodoro sessions in one polished browser experience.
- •Built desk mode with stopwatch or countdown timing, posture switching, hourly sitting reminders with stretch hints, and standing milestones.
- •Implemented weekly summaries and Mon–Fri standing goal rings so users can see and act on their habits over time.
- •Added Pomodoro phases (25 / 5 / 15, with a long break every 4th), a persistent task list, and celebratory feedback on completion.
- •Kept everything client-side with separate localStorage for desk vs Pomodoro data, plus JSON and Excel export so users keep control of their data.
Impact.
DeskFocus removes the friction of juggling separate timers and reminders — and the hesitation that comes with cloud-first tools — by keeping posture and focus tracking private, local, and in one place. Clear mode separation and weekly visual feedback help desk workers build healthier habits without signing up or syncing personal routines to the cloud.
